Greetings! My name is Natali Jones. I spent the summer in Oregon, but am very happy to be back home in Homer. I enjoy hiking, exploring outdoors and most things chocolate.

I graduated last spring from UAF with a MA ED in Counseling K-8. I am currently working as a 7-12 itinerant guidance counselor, which doubles as my internship experience to become 9-12 certified this spring. I am very excited to work with and learn from a variety of Alaskan communities. I plan to implement a comprehensive guidance program, which includes classroom lessons. I believe this course will assist me in being successful in the classroom.

My First Blog

Hello, My name is Jesse Bynum and I am studying history and minoring in secondary education and political science.  I am in my fifth year at UAF and intend on graduating in the next 1.5 years.  I was born and raised in Alaska mostly in small towns and villages (except for Fairbanks for a year during the 2nd grade).  My mother was a special education teacher and we moved around a lot in the beginning (Huslia, Healy, Northway, Fairbanks, Nikolski, and King Cove) all before the 4th grade, but my family finally settled down in Delta Junction and we have been there ever since.

I love the idea of teaching and helping others, especially teens who are getting ready to go out into the world and need guidance.  I had the good fortune of having a few teachers who helped me along and kept me on the straight and narrow because I valued their knowledge and respected them enough not to let them down.  I hope to do the same one day, even if I help just one kid in my whole career it would be worth it, (although I hope to help many thousands of kids throughout my career!)  I hope to teach in Alaska and anywhere would be quite alright to start with, but I’d like to get back to Delta eventually.

Hello from Wrangell

Hello, my name is Roger Mikkelsen. I live in Wrangell, Alaska with my wife and four children. I am certified as a high school math teacher in Alaska. I have a degree in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University. I fish with my family in Bristol Bay in the summers.

Julie Eberhardt

My name is Julie Eberhardt and I was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. I am currently a Junior at UAF and am seeking to complete my BA in English with minors in both Secondary Education and Psychology. I am enrolled in this class in order to fulfill the requirements for my minor, as well as to learn how to improve my teaching abilities. I have worked for the FNSBSD for three years and have been working at West Valley High School as a Teacher’s Aide within the Extended Resources/Special Education department for the past two years.

I plan on living in Fairbanks for the next couple of years and would like to begin my teaching career either in Fairbanks or in South East Alaska. I love to read, shoot trap, ski and hike. This summer I plan on hiking the Chilkoot Trail with my boyfriend and our four black labs.

Benjamin Widman

My name is Ben Widman. I have grown up in  Alaska all my life.  I was born and raised in Soldotna, Alaska with my brother and two sisters. After graduating from high school in 2008, I came up to UAF. This semester I finally will be  graduating with my BA in History and a minor in English. These are two subjects I have always had a passion for in school and I am looking forward to teach these subjects after I am certified. This is the reason I am taking this class. I plan to work on my Teaching Certificate for Secondary Education as part of my Masters in Education. Besides school, I have been married for a little over a year. My wife and I just found out that she is pregnant and due in August! It has been exciting to start planning for our new addition to the family. My hobbies usually include reading Science Fiction/Fantasy  as well as history. I also love playing the drums (usually for my church). I play strategy board games, build models, and write on occasion.  Both my wife and I enjoy traveling but school has made that a near impossibility. However, we plan one day to make our next trip to Scotland.
