Meghan’s Introduction

Hello everyone!

My name is Meghan Geary, I am a senior here at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I attended Purdue University in Indiana my first year of college and decided that, being a born and raised Alaskan, I needed to come home to the mountains. I also started my educational journey as a wildlife biology major because I am wildly passionate about animals and our natural environment. I switched into English and secondary education because I decided that though I was passionate about the outdoors, I am not passionate about sitting in a lab looking at samples. I thrive on communicating with others and my dream is to share our beautiful state of Alaska with others through an educational setting. Being a people person has also moved me to consider a graduate program in counseling, which I may pursue beginning fall of 2020, after graduating this May. That all depends on what happens with my current job; right now I work for the Division of Agriculture in the Alaska Grown program as a marketing intern. I focus on outreach, specifically at farmers markets across the state, encouraging people to buy and support local. My job allows me to do all the things I love: travel the state, talk to people, educate and advocate. I’m open to any opportunities that are placed in front of me and have no idea where my path will lead me, and I think that’s just fine. 🙂

Currently I live out in a little cabin in the woods with my cat, Zuri, and I couldn’t be happier. I love to hike and really want to get into cross country skiing this winter, so if anyone needs an adventure pal, I volunteer!
