Sometimes I feel like the “grandpa” in the cartoon. Even though I was part of the generation that saw computers, the internet and cell phones become household items (I was born in the 60’s), I do not feel compelled to use them every waking moment.
The list of helpful hints on this blog mostly centers around electronic communication, twitter, skype, blogs, wiki’s, etc. While all these are great tools, the last thing I want to to after a hard day in the classroom is sit at my computer for another two or three hours and talk about my day. I don’t feel any need to communicate with my peers, mentors or students. I want to go home and spend time with my family.
I don’t like sitting at a computer texting, emailing, or facebooking. I don’t know if it is just me, my generation, or something else but I would rather go do something meaningful like splitting wood or fixing something.
